Google Montréal Expansion

Art, Culture, and Inclusivity

This expansion to Google’s Montréal location adds an additional 30,000 SF to their recently completed, award-winning downtown workspace. Continuing with the concept of the existing space, materials, details, biophilia, and original artwork were used to embody the essence of the iconic Montréal neighbourhoods of Le Plateau and Le Village. These two vibrant, bohemian quarters impart their colourful playfulness to the historic building’s interior while weaving in their unmistakable celebration of inclusivity, culture, architecture and art.

  • Continuing from the floors below, a sculptural feature stair provides not only a means of navigating the multi-floor space, but also promotes wellness, biophilia, wayfinding, and spatial orientation. This central landmark is enshrouded by structural steel tubing and grounded by vibrant carpet that transitions from one colour to the next as you ascend to each level. In contrast to the stair’s industrial architecture, a cascade of greenery flows along planters that anchor the centre of the structure, bringing in a freshness connection to nature. The stair opens on each level to a vibrantly branded elevator lobby marked with unique supergraphics and unified wayfinding, providing a quick and seamless way of navigating the office from the existing floors to the new addition.

The project adds a flexible multi-room venue for hosting gatherings and groups, featuring acoustically engineered spaces that allow for various events to occur simultaneously without disruption. To compliment this conference facility, the floor is flanked by both indoor and outdoor breakout spaces, allowing Googlers and guests to take in the outdoors and admire the city views while they meet, break and eat. An expansion of workspace, meeting and collaborative space as well as inviting food and beverage venues round out the expansion’s offerings and characterize this workspace as one of the city’s best.
